Christmas in New York - Day Two
Day Two and we were up and at ‘em early again. No rain today, but definitely chilly. I was thrilled about the weather because I had two enormous suitcases of winter attire in desperate need of air time. Traveling light? Not in this lifetime. We headed to Carnegie’s Diner for breakfast. I boldly ordered the pancakes with a side of bacon, and the Favourite Husband had steak and eggs, as you do. The portions are insanely enormous and subsequently there is huge wastage. You see

Christmas in New York
When you’ve spent Christmas in New York, you return home sad that it’s over. It’s like that fabulous Wham song “Last Christmas” I gave you my heart … and now I feel like you’ve broken up with me. Forgotten about me already. Moved on. I now face a Summer ahead of record-breaking temperatures in the high 30’s, when Christmas was a blissful -9. Kauaeranga Kauri Trail - The Pinnacles
The Pinnacles, also known as the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail, is located near Thames in the Coromandel. As a hike it had been on our “to do” list for years, but I’d always felt it was terribly daunting. Honestly, I should've tackled it back when my legs worked faster than my excuses and my idea of a workout was more than just lifting a wine glass. Melbourne in a Weekend
Recently the Favourite Husband celebrated a birthday, and as a special gift "I" took us to Melbourne for a long weekend. (See what I did there?) Now I’ve never been to Melbourne, but I only hear good things about it. Plus everyone and their dog seem to have been so I was having serious FOMO. The Favourite Husband had previously been. 42 years ago he arrived there with his belongings in a backpack and no plan. Not much has changed. Weirdly (and a sad reflection on our na

Wairere Falls and Te Aroha
It’s taken me until I am well in to my (cough) 50’s to admit to something. It’s not an addiction as such, more a little secret. Perhaps I am ashamed and embarrassed. Maybe I feel a little grubby. But it’s out there now. I’ve said it out loud. I really enjoy walking. I have for decades. When my large tribe of free-range children were young, walking the dogs was my only opportunity to get away from the chaos and the mayhem. I remember one Christmas I asked for waterproof
